The ups and downs of living with a teen

Weekly Update – 25/06/2017

Another week has flown by, where are these weeks going, so it is time for my weekly update, and what a week it has been.

I will start off with C, she had a rough start to the week, as I had to take her to our GP to see the nurse to have bloods taken for a list of blood tests as long as my arm, and also an ECG following our Dr requesting this when she saw her the week before and her heart rate was racing slightly.

The nurse had arranged some ‘magic cream’ to numb the area so that it would be less painful for her having bloods taken, so we put this on an hour before and then realised they did not supply the dressing. So we wrap in clingfilm after I rang the surgery to find out what to do.  So poor C had cream applied and her arms wrapped up and could then not bend them properly, so I had to help her get dressed, brush her hair and put her shoes on (just like when she was little).

At the surgery, the nurse suggested doing the bloods first, luckily she found a vein straight away and got me to hold 5-6 vials, C was doing great until towards the end, when she went even whiter than she is usually and said she felt sick and her hearing was going funny, then her lips turned blue.  Luckily enough blood had been taken and we got her onto the bed with her feet up and some water, and very slowly her lips turned to the correct colour. So we turned her around and the ECG was done, thankfully that came out ok, and her blood pressure and pulse and heart rate was monitored and taken to show the GP before we could leave.  Her pulse was racing but we put this down to the heat and her blood tests.  We now need to wait for the results to come in and then go and see the GP again to discuss the results and get a copy.

Friday was my Mums birthday, and on Wednesday my Dad (he is very forgetful these days) came home from a bowls match, saying he is playing on Friday afternoon.  This was after him telling my Mum he would take her out.  She was not impressed.  Queue me stepping in and quietly asking Dad if he had sorted anything for her birthday, to which he said no he forgot.  So on Thursday I ordered my Mum some flowers from him, and then went out shopping with Dads card and got her birthday presents and a card, and my Husband booked them a table at a nice restaurant to go out for a meal.  Mum was very happy with her presents flowers and cards and they loved their meal out at Hawkers Bar and Brasserie, you can read my review of it here.  They had a lovely meal and said they could not fault it and will go again.

Last night, myself, husband and friends enjoyed an amazing evening at a leisure centre in Watford, to watch another friend take part in a charity boxing match.  It was a great excuse to dress up, and I have never been to a boxing match before.  The event was to raise money for cancer research.  Something very close to everyone’s hearts, but more so for us all at the moment, as one of our friends has a brain tumour he is 38 and speaking to his wife today we have been told if we would like to see him it has to be this week.  Before the event started an announcement was made that their group had raised £40,000, and a lot of money was raised during the evening.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that our eldest son is making us grandparents in December, last Sunday my other son dropped the bombshell that they were expecting as well and due in January, but will confirm the dates when they have their scan.  So we are going to have two grandchildren in the space of a month.

Finally, how hot has it been this week, I have been melting, I have no idea how I survived as struggling with hot flushes as well, am so glad the weather has turned a little cooler.

Hope you have all had a good week x

  1. I’m so sorry it was such a rough week for C. How scary the episode she had during the nurse taking her blood must have been! I hope you will get some good news from the blood tests.

I’m glad you had a chance to have a nice night out and it’s wonderful how much money was raised for cancer research. I’m so sorry your friend is battling this terrible disease, however.

How exciting that you will be blessed with two grandchildren within a month! Congratulations!

  2. I couldn’t help but think .. you’re in the generation of women who are caring for families of their own, as well as their parents. Too cute about helping them navigate your mom’s birthday. Also, how exciting about not one, but two(!) grand-babies. Wishing you a wonderful (and cool!) week ahead

    1. I am now not only having to look after my family but also my parents, but it is more my poor Dad at the moment. I know two grandchildren within a month I am going to be very tired and very poor 🙂 x
