You can sometimes feel that your life has been entirely taken over by this new human, and it’s understandable that that would be stressful. Of course, you can’t fight it: your child needs you to be there for them. However, there are things you can do to make sure you don’t lose your sense of self completely. Check out our tips below.
Live in the Moment
It’s more difficult to live in the moment than you might realize. Humans aren’t naturally set up to think that way, especially in the hectic 21st century, when there’s always something to take care of, always something to be concerned with. Take a read of some practices to help you live in the moment, and you’ll be able to better engage with your surroundings. When you’re with your child, you should be in the moment. When you’re at work, you’ll be focused on those tasks. You can’t be all things at all times!
Getting Help From Others
It’s your child, and it’s tempting to take care of everything yourself. But think about it: it just can’t be done! And there are plenty of people around who will be willing to help you, paid or otherwise. If you have family or close friends living near you, then enlist them for babysitting duties! It’ll give you a breather and allow you to focus on your own needs for a few hours. There are plenty of great nurseries around the UK, too, so take a visit to a few and see which one feels right for you.
Be Time Efficient
Time efficiency is just one skill that some people struggle with, but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn! Take steps to use your time better, and you’ll be better able to get everything done. Use your smartphone or computer to have a GP at hand, and you’ll be able to get medical advice without even leaving your home. If you have phone calls to make, make them (using Bluetooth, of course) when you’re driving. Don’t make individual meals, but instead big batches that can be frozen and eaten without much fuss.
Find Your Fun With Your Child
If you’re always trying to find opportunities to have your own version of fun, then you won’t make it very far! You need to be able to have fun with your child; and, even better, find a way to incorporate your child into the fun things you like to do! For example, this might mean finding a mother’s group that revolves around your favourite activity. They’ll be able to play with other children; you’ll meet other parents. Perfect!
Above all, the best way to keep the baby-life balance in check is to…relax! Make sure you’re doing the things that make you feel calm and ready to take on the world. If you feel good, everything else can flow outward with positivity!
