Well I thought last week was emotional, with my daughter starting Secondary School and all the emotions that go along with it, and was hoping for a much more relaxed week this week.
I was certainly not prepared for what life threw at us this week.
Firstly, my daughter has loved Secondary School, she has got up fine and happy every morning and come home every night, full of her day and telling me about her lessons and friends. She has enjoyed the freedom of going to and from school on the bus, apart from yesterday morning where we had to run back home and jump in the car as the bus was going to be late. I have found a wonderful app to track the bus so know exactly how long we will be waiting.
Let me start by saying we house share with my parents, it works wonderfully for all of us and this week has shown how glad I am that we do. I had got my daughter up for school and was feeding the animals and getting my daughters breakfast, while sorting out my first coffee of the day, when my Mum appeared, anyone who knows us, knows that my Mum never gets up that early. She was really worried about my Dad he wasn’t well, I cancelled a hospital appointment he had, and after a phone call to the Dr’s, I was on the phone calling for an ambulance, which arrived very quickly and can not fault them, he was then blue lighted to hospital as he had suffered a stroke. We have all seen the adverts on the tv, heard the adverts on the radio and seen them in the papers, but can you remember all the things to look for – NO. To be honest it was hard to tell to start with, the first thing to have gone was his speech he just sounded like he was drunk and drugged up and slurry, his right side then started to go and his face fell on one side, that became noticeable when the ambulance was on the way. Mum went with him to the hospital, while I stayed at home in a daze and not being able to function or settle, I just kept walking around with the home phone and my mobile in my hands. He was kept in overnight having numerous tests.
On Wednesday, eventually we were told he could come home, so of I went with Mum, to a hospital I had never been too, with the help of the satnav and we brought him home.
Luckily, it was caught quickly he is slow with walking and needs to use a stick as his right side is weak and his face is still dropped but is talking properly now, but he keeps forgetting the right words, so it is a bit of a puzzle game at times.
Do you know the signs of a stroke, you can find out here, I would ask everyone to just take a look and refresh their memory, as believe me you will not remember everything. They also ask if you can stick your tongue out.
So now my dad is out of action, and because he was a keen gardener, where as I am the total opposite, I have told him not to worry about the garden I will sort it. What have I let myself in for, so tomorrow I am going to be digging up potatoes and pulling up onions, but he knows whatever needs doing I will do it.
Through all this my daughter has been an absolute star, she has just carried on as normal, this is one of the things I love about her, as she just plods on, no matter what is going on.
So on Sunday we have promised to take her to London to visit a Japanese shop that she has been boring me about for ages, she is very much fascinated by Japan and even teaching herself to speak Japanese. She is passionate about are and draws some amazing Manga style drawings.
So as you can see we have had a pretty stressful and worrying week. It was one of those situations where you honestly think, it wont happen to me, and just goes to show how unpredictable life is.
Please let next week be boring.
Hope you have all had a better week than I have.
