The signs I have a pre-teen have really shown this week, with the strops and the sulks, mixed together with a battle of wills between myself and my daughter.
My daughter has gone on holiday today for a week with my parents, and we promised that she could have her bedroom redecorated, but her Dad put in the condition it is all cleaned and tidy or he is not stepping foot in her room, which of course she agreed to, but in the next breath asking if I will help her.
So, Monday comes and we make a start and I told her she has to get rid of all her junk, we start with the cuddly toys, she has hundreds, we managed to lose 5 (which the dog now has so he is happy). After making a good bit of progress, we called it quits for the day. Tuesday, we start again, this time tackling her books, she has hundreds of books thanks to her Nanny who worked for a publishers, we kept some and are getting rid of loads, so that took quite a while. Wednesday, we tackled her wardrobe, she looked scared and so she should. I wash and iron her clothes and leave them on her bed to put away nicely, but by the looks of it she picks the pile up and just launches the pile in and shuts the door, yes technically she has put them away I suppose, if you wanted to argue the fact, but really. So after me dragging everything out and going through what fits and what doesn’t fit, the poor child really is desperate for new clothes, as only really has summer clothes that fit her, so another shopping spree will be coming up soon. I put it all back in neatly, with my same old lecture of she has to keep it tidy.
We then decided to pop to B&Q to choose some paint for her bedroom. Off we all went to look at paint, she already knew she wanted green (her favourite colour) and she happily chose what she wanted, we looked at a few other bits and then came home.
We then went back up to her bedroom to sort out her clothes to take on holiday, well this is where she had her major strop and the battle of wills started. There she was lying on her bed on her iPad with her phone beside her. I start going through her clothes counting out everything she needs to take, she just ignores me, she told me she could not sit up as her back hurt, honestly it was fine when she was out. Then she rolled over back to me. This is where I lost it with her, and told her I am having her iPad and phone until we had sorted what she was taking, well you have never seen her move so quickly and the bad back had magically gone. It was much easier going from then on and we got it sorted. But the amount of black bags filled with rubbish and old clothes admittedly, is shocking.
Thursday, we had a day out with friends and went to the cinema and McDonald’s, we had a great day apart from me being in shock at the cost, you can see my post here about it, and what we saw.
Today, I was up at 4am, and waking my daughter up as well, which believe me is against my nature, to take her and my parents to the airport as they are off on a Disney Cruise for a week, I am not jealous, really I am not, I mean who wants to go on a cruise when you can be at home for a week doing housework and decorating.
How has your week been?
