Paris

Last Tuesday my husband turned to me and asked if I fancied going to Paris the next day for a couple of nights.  Well, I was not going to say no and ran off to tell our daughter we were off to Paris the next morning, before hurrying around sorting everything out to take.

Our journey started early Wednesday morning, where we booked an uber taxi to pick us up from home and take us to St Pancras Station.  If you have never heard of Uber, I recommend you have a look, and if available where you live sign up.  It is a taxi firm where you book from an app on your phone, you put in where you want to be collected and your destination and it will tell you how long you have to wait, how much the fare will cost and give you the drivers picture, name, make of car and registration.  The fare is taken from your account once the journey is complete, so you do not have to pay the driver.

Once at St Pancras, we checked into the Eurostar, and then waited in the lounge for boarding onto the train.  This was the first time any of us had travelled as a foot passenger on the Eurostar. When it was time to board we were greeted at our carriage by a member of staff, when on board we did not realise at time of booking that we were travelling in Standard Premier, the seats were spacious and comfortable, we were served a breakfast with orange juice and tea or coffee, while we sped through the English Countryside and into the French Countryside.  Once we arrived in Paris, it was very quick and easy and we were off the train and outside the station in a matter of minutes.  Once outside we booked an Uber to pick us up and take us to, our hotel.  This was fairly painless, apart from lack of english/french speaking, but once we found the car we were soon on our way to our hotel, getting our first glimpses of Paris, as none of us had been before, with our driver pointing out landmarks along the way to our hotel.

We stayed at the Novotel Paris Vaugirard Montparnasse, we booked our trip through lastminute.com, and chose one of their surprise accommodation, where you do not know where you are staying until you have booked the trip.  When we found out our hotel, we both started looking at reviews, but I have to say apart from not being right in the middle of all the landmarks, the hotel was lovely and clean, staff very friendly and helpful and it was nice and relaxing, we could not find any fault in it, and I would recommend to stay in it and ignore a lot of the negative comments as we did not experience any of these.  I have put a review on TripAdviser saying the same.

Once we had unpacked, we decided to go and have a walk and have a drink, we stopped at a bar just down the road, I ended up ordering a bucket of beer for my husband

We then wondered around, before heading back to our hotel and going to see the roof top bar to see the view, before heading to our room to get ready for the evening.

We introduced our daughter to tapas for dinner, which she loved, before making our way along to see the Eiffel Tower, where there were market stalls, entertainment and street sellers along the way.

When we got to the Eiffel Tower, we sat and waited for it to get dark and the lights to come on, there was hundreds of people there, but the atmosphere was fantastic and everyone cheered when the lights started.

Then we made our way back to our hotel, and went back up to the rooftop bar to view the tower at night, while having a drink and talking about our day and planning tomorrow.

The next morning, we woke to beautiful clear blue skies, and while me and my husband went down to the bar for a coffee, we left our daughter to get dressed and go on her ipad.  Once we were all ready, we went out and first stop was Notre Dame, yes I did have to embarrass my daughter by doing my impression of the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

After a stop for lunch, we made our way to Louvre, an amazing place, but very busy hence why we did not queue for hours to go and see the famous Mona Lisa

After leaving here, we found by accident the famous bridge with all the lovers padlocks on, we thought the padlocks had all been removed.  So we brought a padlock and in my daughters favourite colour we wrote our names and attached it to the bridge, while our daughter threw the key into the River Seine.

We then made our way back to our hotel, to get ready for the evening, the plan being going back to the Louvre to see it at night.

Well our evening was not quite as we planned it, we started off popping on the Metro and going to the Trocadero, it was so busy, but a great atmosphere with entertainment and views

We then went off to the Moulin Rouge area, I have no idea what we were expecting, I thought it would be a bit like Leicester Square with entertainment etc, I was not expecting it to be full of every other shop a sex shop or show, and with an 11 year old with us, I grabbed her hand made sure she kept looking at me while I was talking none stop rubbish at her and having heart palpitations all the way along and ageing by about 20 years until we got to the Metro, where we jumped on and made our way back to our hotel where we had dinner.

Next day it was time to pack and come home, after a couple of fantastic, memorable family days in Paris.  We left our luggage at the hotel while we went off to find pancakes for our daughter, unfortunately everywhere was closed, so we decided to stop for breakfast, at a place that had english breakfasts, we were asked what omelette we would like and we all asked for fried eggs, expecting this plus bacon etc, what we got was 3 fried eggs on a plate, but I did enjoy the fresh bread and croissants.  Our daughter still wanting a pancake got her wish but it was a proper restaurant and both myself and my husband although full felt we had to have one.

Then it was time to make our way back to our hotel collect our luggage and call an Uber, before making our way back home.

We had a truly magical time in Paris and we all want to go back again, as there is still so much to explore.

Paris is a lovely city. I love how spontaneous your trip was! Looks like you had a great time. I thought the locks had been removed too so I’m surprised that they’re still there. I remember watching it on the news. Thanks for linking up to the #BinkyLinky

It was very spontaneous, but I think that made it all the more exciting, as once booked we did not really have time to think until we were on the Eurostar on our way. We only found the bridge by accident so glad we did though, was amazing looking at the padlocks, even our daughter enjoyed looking at them x

We loved it as well, and so did our daughter. Luckily she loves going to new places and she is into her history and it was lovely having a few days as a family and all of us enjoying it without the usual moans of I am bored, hungry, thirsty etc
