The ups and downs of living with a teen

How many hats?

How many hats?

Am just sitting down after a very busy day, and was thinking how many jobs us mums do on a daily/weekly basis, plus all the extra little things we do.

Off the top of my head here are a few I do without thinking about

Cook

I prepare breakfast, lunch and dinners every day, plus make bread, cakes, biscuits etc as extras to the daily food preparation

Cleaner

Clean the house, there is always hoovering, mopping, dusting, kitchen to clean, bathroom to clean

Housekeeper

Have grouped, the food shopping, washing, ironing, changing beds etc into this category

Book-keeper/Accountant

Paying bills, budgeting etc

Taxi Driver

There are the school runs, driving the kids to their friends, parties or any other social event they need taking too

PA

Running their diaries, for sleepover, parties, school assemblies, school trips, days out

Peacekeeper

If you have more than two children, you are always having to referee arguments and fights

Nurse

It is always Mum they want when they are ill, and we try to do our best to make them better

counsellor

When they come home from school, and have had an argument with their friend, and it is the end of the world

We do all this and more, daily without even thinking about it.  Plus today I have also been a labourer, moving gravel from the front to the back garden and photographers assistant, as my husband was trying different lighting.

It is no wonder us mums, are stressed and tired at the end of the day

Do not ever let anyone make you feel bad for just being a mum, just remember how many hats you where in a day.

  1. We really are “Mum’s of all trades”. You missed waitress, seamstress, negotiator, chief buyer, personal shopper….LOL. Still THE best job ever.

    1. I am lucky now the kid are older, can actually be together without the bickering and sit in the car without annoying each other x

  2. I totally hear where you’re coming from, as I’m exactly the same! Cook, teacher, peace negotiator when they’re arguing, cleaner, to name just a few.
If you were to pay us for all the different jobs we did we’d be very rich indeed! 🙂

    1. I know it is quite amazing when you sit and think about what you actually do, and if you didn’t do it the whole house can’t cope

  3. Yep, mums definitely do a lot of different jobs. I’ll never understand why some employers don’t see women with children as a massive asset, because they blooming are!

    1. Oh yes all these as well, I am sure if we all sat down and made a list together we would be shocked at just how much we all do in a day x

    1. I know, it is amazing just how many we wear everyday I dread to think how long the list would be if we sat down and listed everything

    1. They certainly can, I used parenting as I am a parent but applies to everyone really we never realise just how many hats we juggle each day x

  4. This is totally right! I’m not even a mum but I have been a support worker and even said this about my own job. People assume mums just do nothing and don’t appreciate they actually do everything! As you said, never feel belittled because all parents have a very hard job x

  5. This is a really interesting post. Sometimes we take for granted the role of our parents – they do so much.

  6. This list is very true! Us parents are great with what we do, a lot of people think parents don’t do much but there is so much to do whilst you’re a parent

    1. I think people think it is just an excuse to say you are a parent, but even as a parent you really don’t realise just how much you do each day, on top of normal things x
