Day 17 of Blogtober 2018, is titled Quick Hide the Wrappers for what has to be one of the best weeks of the year ‘Chocolate Week’.
I never need any excuse to eat chocolate, and can often be found looking at chocolate recipes, of making something chocolatey.
Last year, I was lucky to attend the Chocolate Show at Olympia, you can read all about the show here, it is a chocolate lovers dream show, they had everything including a chocolate flavoured champagne, which of course I had to try.
I have tried to think about which is my favourite chocolate, and I honestly do not think I have one, I go more for the mood I am in, or what I fancy at the time. I used to love Cadburys especially their whole nut bars, but they changed and tasted awful the last time I had one, so have moved over to Galaxy now.
I do cook with chocolate and have had some great success and some amazing disasters over the years. I think my worst disaster to date though is a chocolate guiness cake I saw on a tv program, my husband had never seen such a mess in his life, and it did not taste that good either.
As it is chocolate week, I thought I would share a few fun facts about chocolate.
- We have all had those chocolate coins that you can buy at Christmas. But did you know that in Mayan times the cocoa bean was used as a currency, as it was considered to be worth more than gold dust.
- The chocolate chip cookie was a total accident. In 1930 Ruth Wakefield realised she had no bars chocolate and mixed in some broken pieces from a Nestle bar, as she thought the chocolate would melt and make chocolate cookies. But what she did create was chocolate chip cookies. She later sold her idea to Nestle who in return gave her a life supply of chocolate.
- Toblerones are a very popular chocolate choice. So many bars are sold each that if they were laid end to end they would go on for 63,000 km. Which is longer than the circumference of the Earth.
Why not check back over the past 16 days to see what else I have been talking about.
