All You Need To Know About Central Heating

Winter is coming, and there is nothing nicer than curling up on my settee with a warm mug of coffee and hearing the wind and rain outside while I am warm and cosy.

Now is the time to look at your current central heating, to see if you need to update it or replace any radiators, before your suddenly taking a cold shower on a winters morning.

There are three types of central heating systems

  • A Combi Boiler – which is short for combination, it heats water from the mains on demand and is made up of a single compact unit.
  • A Conventional Boiler – which is the traditional form of heating.  The boiler heats water and pumps it int the radiators for space heating and a water tank where it is kept for later use.
  • A System Boiler – similar to the conventional boiler except that many components are built into the unit so takes up less space

You also need to decide which fuel you are going to use

  • Gas – this is the cheapest, easiest and most common way of powering a boiler.
  • Oil – this is the preferred choice for those without a gas connection.
  • Electricity – is another option for heating.
  • LPG or Liquid Petroleum Gas – this is similar to oil and has to be sorted at your home.
  • Coal – once popular is now a very rare way to heat your home.

With any heating system it is important to have it checked each year, to ensure it is running safely and efficiently, a lot of people have scheduled maintenance which will offer a check up and replacement of anything that needs replacing or repairing.

If this is something you have been meaning to do, or you do not have a regular maintenance service set up, now is the time to start thinking about it.  Have a look at central heating quotes to find your best option.
