Whenever I tell people I work from home, I get the usual comments about how can you be so disciplined to be able to work from home, or how lucky are you to not have a commute, plus various other comments.
My husband also works from home, which means in order to create a home – work balance we have an office area where we go to work. This way we have both found it is easier to separate the two, especially when running a home and looking after a family, and I always say to anyone looking at working from home to try to make an area that is just for working and not mix the two.
Working from home can give you flexibility on your working hours, but you can find you fall into that spiral where you are still working at midnight, so give yourself a start and a finish time.
Another thing I always do, is each month make sure we have enough stationery and since taking control of this, we now have a little cupboard where I keep everything we need. The must haves for me is
A4 paper this is something that is a must, and it is always worth having at least a couple of reams of paper in stock.
Highlighters, this is something that I must have in and always find a reason to highlight something
A stapler and of course staples are a must for any office.
If your house or office is the same as mine you will never be able to find a pen, so this is something I am always stocking up on.
Box files, which I use to file all receipts and invoices on a monthly basis.
There is so much more I could list but these are the main things that I do like to make sure I have in stock in my little stock cupboard.
Keeping stock up to date is easy as you can either pick things up while you are out or use there are companies where you can order online and get some great deals especially on the heavier items.
By keeping to the above as much as you possibly can will ensure that working from home will work for you.
Do you work from home and have any tips you can add to this?
