Why You Shouldn’t Ignore Back Pain

Ignoring pain is something that something that parents are good at. They’re so busy that they don’t have time to stress about that pain that’s been lingering for days. Often children come first in families but sometimes parents need to take a minute to relax and look after themselves.

One of the most common things that is ignored is back pain. It is very important that you don’t ignore back pain because it can often be caused by something more serious. There are many causes of back pain including bad posture, injury or other serious illnesses. In this article, we are going to look at different types of back pain and how you can go about preventing them.

Getting Help

You should never ignore back pain and if you find something in this article that makes you worry, make sure to contact a back pain clinic. You can find these located all across the UK, for example for those living in London (or who are willing to make the commute), there’s the London Back Pain Clinic who are one of the country’s leading practices and can help to treat a wide range of problems from a musculoskeletal sprain to muscle weakening and wear and tear injuries.

Back pain can be a sign of many other illnesses or problems. If you are experiencing limping with your back pain, you need to go and get it checked out right away. Limping paired with back pain can indicate nerve damage which can be very dangerous if you do not get it treated quickly. Any muscle weakness can become permanent, so you should make sure to avoid this at all costs.

Bowel/Bladder Problems

Another thing that you should not ignore is any bowel or bladder problems that come along with your back pain. This can be a sign of a very rare condition called Cauda Equina syndrome. This illness is very dangerous because it tends to put a lot of pressure on your nerves that are located at the bottom of your spinal cord. This is then connected to your pelvic organs and it can sometimes require emergency surgery. If you have this problem, it is important that you get it check out immediately so that you can have the best chance of recovery from this.

Bad Posture

Even if your back pain is not very severe, there may be things that you are doing to cause it. What starts off as a small pain in your back because of bad posture can lead to more serious problems. People all over the world have bad posture, especially those who tend to sit at a desk. Try to avoid ignoring this type of pain because there are many ways that you can adjust how you sit to improve your posture and reduce your back pain. Have a look at ergonomics in the workplace to improve your working experience and prevent back pain.

Final Verdict

Don’t let the stress of parenthood or your busy life distract you from looking after your body. Look after yourself and you’ll be able to keep yourself in good enough health to look after your children for even longer.

I have a bad back and I suspect that having 2 c-sections didn’t help. The main culprit though is spending too long sitting down. As they say, sitting is the new smoking!

I used to suffer with really bad backs when my Daughter was younger, I do agree that sitting down too long does give you a bad back as that is when I am more likely to get one x
