Ok I know it is not quite April Fools Day yet, but I thought you would all be out having fun or eating lots of chocolate, so thought I would post a day or so early.
We all know that 1st April is the day we play jokes on each other and have a laugh, but did you know how April Fools Day came about. This day goes back to 1582 when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, and people were slow to recognise that the start of the year had been moved from 1st April to 1st January, and continued to celebrate during the last week of March through to 1st April, and became the butt of jokes and hoaxes. These included having paper fish placed on the their backs and being referred to as ‘poisson d’avril’ (April fish), which is said to symbolise a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person.
So with the history part out the way, I have been speaking to fellow Bloggers asking for their best April Fools pranks.
Jenna shared – At work I had a letter waiting for me with my p45 and a letter stating I was being let go. I was almost sick to my stomach. It was my team playing a prank I could have killed them 😂 www.thentherewerethree.uk
Carla-Marie shared – An ex dumped me when i was 21. . I then showed my psycho side – it was an april fools and i got dumped for being a nutcase. 🙈🙈 www.mybump2baby.com
Pete shared – One April Fools, my parents woke me up in a hurry and told me I was late for school. I rushed around for 20 minutes, got dressed and had breakfast. Just as I was about to go out the door, they reminded me it was the holidays. I was not impressed! They still chuckle about it now. www.householdmoneysaving.com
Beth shared – I remember our teacher at school blew the whistle at playtime and told everyone to stop as he’d lost his contact lens. He had us all looking on the floor for it. Still stands out 20+ years on as the best April Fools prank ever. Twinderelmo.co.uk
Georgina shared – My parents got married 😂😂 https://www.geegardner.co.uk
Alice shared – My 9 year old daughter loves a prank. A couple of months ago she filled a closed umbrella with confetti and glitter and put it back in the boot of my husband’s car. We all forgot about it but several weeks later it was raining so my husband obviously put the umbrella up when he got to work and became a walking glitter ball 😄 He was confused as to what was going on but Elsa thought it was hilarious! He still had a bit of a shimmer to him when he returned home that evening . www.livingwithajude.co.uk
Victoria shared – When I was younger my Mum slyly changed all the clocks in the house and even her boyfriend’s car clock. He got up, got ready and went to work around two hours early. Needless to say he wasn’t very impressed when he got to work and realised! My Mum, however, found it hilarious for years! www.lyliarose.com
Anna shared – Last year I emailed my very long-term boyfriend who refuses to get married, and told him to set aside a date 8th May in his work calendar. He did it and asked why so I told him I’d booked our wedding for that day. He was like “oh”. Wasn’t quite as hilarious as I’d hoped. Www.meanniebee.com
Rachel shared – Several years ago, when I was heavily invested in my Facebook reputation, my then-boyfriend changed my birthday to that day. Turns out if your birthday gets changed on Facebook, you have to wait a few days to change it back. Despite several status updates of “IT’S NOT MY BIRTHDAY!”, several close friends and family members proved they didn’t know me at all! It’s the oldest trick in the book but it did give me a good giggle. Https://wordofrachel.com
Eileen shared – I put soy sauce in my boyfriends coke, he was thirsty so he drank it all in one go, threw it up in one go too 😂😂we laughed after. 2nerdsandababy.com
Laura shared – My favourite was giving my ex husband the number of the local zoo and telling him he needed to return a call to a Mr Lyon. I still laugh about it years later. www.fivelittledoves.com
Sara-Jayne shared – I did an awful one – my class kept telling me that I could never catch them out on April Fool’s day – and so on the morning I told them that the headteacher had set a new spelling test and that whomever failed would need to go to her office to tell her why. I then set ridiculous words for them and watched them all panicking as the test started! The children in that class are 17 now – and they still talk about it when I see them when I’m out! https://www.keep-up-with-the-jones-family.com
Veronica shared – My husband put powder in my hair blower! What a way to start the day. I had to shower again and was late for work. I had been thinking of ways to get back since then. www.myparentingjourney.com
Katie Louise shared – My birthday is 4th April. One year my parents gave me a gift on 1st April saying they needed to give it me early to make sure it was ok in case they had to return it. I opened the box and found a mobile phone and was over the moon as it was what I desperately wanted. It was a fake! I can’t tell you how gutted I was! Needless to say 3 days later on my actual birthday I did get a real mobile phone. They still laugh about it now! www.mumof2point5.com
Pippa shared – I moved my children into each others beds in the middle of the night. I found it funny! (http://www.amothersramblings.com/2014/04/april-fools.html) My husband has put a dead body outline in the living room, and we keep threatening the kids with having an easter egg hunt in the garden, but not having any eggs out there!
Carol shared a post she has filled with pranks which you can view here
One from me, my Dad was a Baker and used to get up really early, the night before I replaced all the sugar for salt, he got up in the morning and made some cereal. He was not very amused, although he laughs these days. Me and my Mum found it hilarious.
Thank you to everyone for sharing your pranks, I have had a good laugh reading all these.
