New Theatre Shows

Stop Press! Hot New Shows Coming to London Town in 2016

It’s going to be a busy year with new shows coming to the West End, and we’re here to tell you all about the best ones to see. If you live in London and fancy a date at the theatre, or if you’re travelling from further afield to see a show, hopefully we can help make your theatre choice a worthwhile one!

Take a look at our top picks for new West End shows coming soon;

Funny Girl

This classic film will soon be transformed into one of the West End’s most anticipated shows. With Sheridan Smith playing the lead role of Fanny Brice, this is a musical gem that has captured audiences for decades since the film with Barbra Streisand appeared on our screens.

Sheridan Smith’s career has gone from strength to strength since her early days in TV sitcoms. Her recent portrayal of Cilla Black earned her some fantastic reviews and critics are hoping for the same show-stopping performance when Smith takes to the West End stage.

Funny Girl in the West End runs from 12th April 2016 until 8th October at The Savoy Theatre, and tickets are already selling like hotcakes! It’s definitely one not to miss.

Dreamgirls

Also running at The Savoy Theatre will be Dreamgirls, the Broadway musical that spawned a critically acclaimed film starring Beyoncé. Now set to return to the stage with its first run in the West End, fans of Dreamgirls will be snapping up theatre tickets as soon as they go on sale.

Dreamgirls will star Glee actress Amber Riley in the lead role of Effie White. Fans will be excited to hear the iconic “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”, sung in the film by Jennifer Hudson. This is an uplifting storyline that will be sure to encourage some audience sing-alongs!

Dreamgirls in the West End runs from November 2016, and tickets will be on sale soon. You can be the first to find out about Dreamgirls ticket releases here.

Aladdin

We’ve seen so much buzz around the new Aladdin musical that we think this is probably the most hotly-anticipated show of 2016 so far. Why? It’s a classic family friendly musical that is set to delight audiences of all ages with its colourful performance.

With character favourites such as Genie and Abu, there’s a lot to love about Aladdin. After the Disney film arrived in 1992, it’s hard to believe it’s over 20 years since we were introduced to this classic. For us, the film was made by the late, great Robin Williams but we hear that the West End Genie, played by Trevor Dion Nicholas is going to be fantastic.

So take a red carpet ride through the wonderful stage adaptation of Aladdin this year. The show is running at the Prince Edward Theatre with the official opening night on 9th June 2016.

You can book theatre tickets for Aladdin in the West End right up to October, so what better way to treat the kids during the summer break than with a trip to see Aladdin.
